  • Our Story

Ona Elementary School set a goal to become an Apple Distinguished School, a program that recognizes schools for "using Apple products to connect students to the world, fuel creativity, deepen collaboration, and make learning personal" (Apple).

Our students are 1:1 with iPads, and all of our classrooms and teachers are equipped with iPads, MacBooks, and Apple TVs.  This sets the stage for teaching and learning with innovative, forward-thinking practices.

As an Apple Distinguished School, Ona Elementary joined a network of nearly 900+ schools across 37 countries committed to inspiring innovative learning and teaching, imagining new possibilities with technology in the classroom, and having a positive impact on our students and the learning community more broadly.

Check out how Ona inspires innovative teaching and learning, imagines new possibilities in education with technology, and has an impact on student and teacher outcomes within and beyond our school walls.

    Inspire

At Ona Elementary School, students and staff work together to make learning exciting and meaningful! Our School’s vision is that everyone should have a safe, nurturing learning environment, with high expectations for everyone to succeed.

Student and teacher leaders help us achieve our school’s vision by using technology in innovative ways.

Many of our teachers are experts at using technology to teach and inspire. Most are recognized as Apple Teachers! They use iPad to make lessons more engaging and creative.

We use our technology to enhance our learning with creativity.  Students are telling stories with iMovie, collaborating to compose songs in GarageBand, making poetry portraits with photos, and so much more!

    Imagine

At Ona Elementary school, teachers and learners are empowered to discover new possibilities and solutions through imagination, collaboration, and creativity.

Students have a voice in what they are learning, especially when it comes to creativity and technology. Student leaders help decide what skills are important to them, and train their peers on how to use iPad efficiently and effectively.

Students collaborate with their peers to create photos, videos, music and more.  Teachers use technology to collaborate with others beyond our school walls to impact learning across our district, and even across the nation!

Technology has helped our school create a culture of wellness and wonder throughout our building.  We use iPad creatively to explore new ideas, and also to share our learning and our successes.

    Impact

Students and teachers at Ona are committed to leaving the world better than we found it. We do this through using data to reflect on what we are doing well, and what we can do better. We share our successes with each other and the community.

We make our school a place where everyone can succeed, and technology plays a big role in student success.  Being a 1-to-1 school means ALL students have access to the best technology and tools to make learning personalized.

Ona students come from diverse backgrounds, and our school is committed to making sure EVERY student has the tools they need to succeed.  Our school focuses on recognizing success and achievement in behavior, academics, and attendance.  And, we have community partners that help us meet the needs of students and families both in the classroom, and at home.
