Principal, Beverly Holley

Hello! My name is Beverly Holley, and I am the Principal of Guyandotte Elementary.  My prior role was Assistant Principal at Central City, and I also worked as an Elementary Academic Specialist for Â鶹Éç.  I served four elementary schools by conducting trainings, technology support, and integration and data interpretation.

I have taught for twenty-seven years in West Virginia, Kentucky, and Connecticut.  My husband is retired from the military, so we had to move often. However, this enabled me to experience different counties and schools and add to my proverbial “tool belt”.  Through the years, I have taught from pre-school to seventh grade, and in my experience, I have found that they are really the same; they just get taller!

For four years, I worked at Sylvan Learning Center as their Director of Education.  We assessed student skills in math and reading and tutored them with prescriptive activities to fill their educational gaps. We also provided SAT/ACT prep. This really kept me on my toes in mathematics!  I enjoyed the work and learned a lot about assessment, but I soon missed the classroom and went back to teaching in public school.

For two years, I also tutored and mentored at the Boys and Girls Club.  This was hard work but extremely rewarding. I enjoy helping others less fortunate and give them the love and support they so desperately need.

I have two children of my own. My son is twenty-seven and has his Master’s degree from Ohio State University. He currently works in Washington, DC in the Federal Programs Accountability Department. My daughter is twenty-two and is an E5 Hospital Corpsman in the Navy. She is attending Marshall University Nursing School. I also have three dogs that live a very pampered life.

I am thrilled to be a part of the Guyandotte family! The staff is truly amazing here with huge, caring hearts! Together, we are doing great things for our students, their families, and the community!
